How to Make the Best Cannabutter in Seven Easy Steps


Would you like to make the best homemade cannabutter, but you don't know how? Then do not miss this manual!

By following our instructions, you can easily and effortlessly make the highest quality cannabutter. However, the truth is that the quality (in terms of therapeutic effects) of your cannabutter always depends on the quality of the plant material. As for the potency, somebody prefers “milder” versions, which you can eat all day spread on your bread, while someone else might like more potent material, which would make you fall asleep after one teaspoon. The simple rule is: the stronger (higher levels of healing cannabinoids – mostly THC and CBD) cannabis you use, the stronger the butter will be.

Besides the procedure of making cannabutter, the following lines also contain several ideas for recipes with cannabutter. It is highly advisable to decarboxylate the plant material in the oven first (the temperature recommendations in different publications vary between 80–110 degrees Celsius and the time varies between 30–60 minutes).


 

Step One

Use a medium sized pot and start boiling one litre of water. You can use different amount, but the cannabis always has to float 3–5 centimetres above the bottom of the pot.

 

Step Two

Once the water starts to boil, put the butter in and let it dissolve. In this recipe we use 30 grams of cannabis per 450 grams of butter, but the potency (i.e. medicinal effects) depends entirely on the potency of starting material, as mentioned before. That's why cannabutter made from leaves and small flowers of cannabis grown outdoors is not as strong as butter made from the same amount of top buds covered in resin containing the highest concentration of cannabinoids.

Step Three

Once the butter is dissolved, add cannabis. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about three hours. You can tell the butter is ready when the surface of the mixture is glossy and solid.

 

Step Four

While the mixture simmers, prepare a bowl for the final product. Optimally use a heat resistant bowl (some people prefer to use plastic containers). Cover the bowl with two layers of thin cloth and tighten with rubber band, string or tape.

 

Step Five

Strain the cannabutter into the bowl – watch out so it does not overflow. Once the pot is empty, take the cloth off and squeeze out the remaining butter.

 

Step Six

Let the mixture cool for about an hour. Put it into a fridge and let it cool until the butter rises to the top of the mixture and becomes solid. THC and other cannabinoids have been released to the butter and it is almost finished.

 

Step Seven

Cut off the solid butter at the top, place it upside down on and wipe the remaining water. That's it. The cannabutter is ready. Enjoy!

A Couple of Useful Tips for Delicious and Simple Dishes Infused with Cannabutter:

Add one or two teaspoons of cannabutter to warm maple syrup to flavour pancakes or waffles.

Before placing on a grill, butter your bread with cannabutter, or you can fry asparagus with parmesan cheese and garlic on it.

Spread the butter over roasted potatoes with onion and cheese in the oven.

Cannabutter can be used for any sweet pastry recipes – pies, cookies, cakes and so on.
