F1

F1 is a biological codename for the so called first filial generation, which comes into existence as a result of crossing two individual strains of parental generation P1. The original P1 types come from various geographical locations such as Afghani (Afghanistan), Acapulco Gold (Mexico), or Highland Thai (Thailand).

Today we usually buy F1 generation seeds, because they produce stable and uniform plants – and they are sold by most of the well-known seed banks such as Sensi Seeds or Dutch Passion just to name a few. Among the most popular ones are for example Skunk #1, Northern Lights, Jack Herer a others.

There are also seed banks on the market offering cheaper F2 generation seeds. F2 hybrid is a cross of two F1 generation plants. These seeds are unstable meaning the plants can grow different phenotypes from all of the previous lineages of both parents. Some growers and breeders prefer the variability of F2 hybrids over the stability of F1 types.
